How Ankara’s metro network is organized

How Ankara’s metro network is organized

Ankara’s urban rail includes Ankaray and the metro lines. Ankaray runs between AŞTİ and Dikimevi. The metro routes connect Kızılay with Batıkent and Koru, Batıkent with Törekent, and AKM with Şehitler. These endpoints help you match a line to your destination before setting out.

Ankaray was Ankara’s first urban rail system. It entered service in 1996 and runs 8.527 km between AŞTİ and Dikimevi, serving 11 stations.

Raymar Hotels Ankara is about an 8-minute walk from 15 Temmuz Kızılay Millî İrade, a 12-minute walk from Kolej and a 13-minute walk from Esat. Those nearby stations give you several starting points for rail journeys.

Using Kızılay as a central interchange

Using Kızılay as a central interchange

Kızılay is a shared station for Ankara Metro and Ankaray. EGO says you can transfer between them without passing through the fare gates or paying an additional fare. At Kızılay, Ankaray runs toward Dikimevi or AŞTİ; the Keçiören Metro connects Kızılay with Şehitler; and Ankara Metro serves the route between OSB and Koru.

Check the destination shown for your train, especially when changing lines. A route that uses Kızılay can connect you between Ankaray and the metro without an extra fare gate crossing, but other payment rules may apply to your journey.

Finding current maps, fares and service updates

EGO publishes rail maps on its website, at station information and map boards, and in the EGO CEP’te mobile app. Use a map to check the line and station sequence for your route; the app also provides estimated train arrival times.

Fares and operating details can change. EGO’s website, station information boards and Başkent 153 provide schedule information. EGO also announces rail changes, including cancellations and extended hours, on its website and social media, through EGO CEP’te and via Başkent 153.

Metro and Ankaray first departures begin at 06:00, but first and last service times vary by line. The listed final departures differ by direction and station, so check the official site before you go.

Reaching Ulus and other visitor areas

Ulus is served by both rail and bus connections. EGO says Ulus Metro station is within walking reach of Ankara Train Station. For a bus route through the area, route 304 connects K.Konaklar, GOP, Kuğulu, 15 Temmuz Kızılay Millî İrade Meydanı, Sıhhiye and Ulus. Route 318 also runs through Kızılay and Sıhhiye to Opera and Ulus, coming from Bağcılar.

If you’re planning time around central parks, Güvenpark and other central parks are useful places to pair with a trip through Kızılay. For historic sights, use Ulus as a starting point for Ankara’s Old Town historic places.

Getting between rail, bus and intercity services

For AŞTİ, take Ankaray in the direction of AŞTİ from any Ankaray station. If you’re starting on the metro, transfer to Ankaray at Kızılay. EGO also lists bus and dolmuş options: buses from Kızılay, Opera or Sıhhiye using Eskişehir Road can take you to the Armada stop, from which AŞTİ is accessible.

Within the centre, route 305 connects 15 Temmuz Kızılay Millî İrade Meydanı, Kuğulu and G. Osmanpaşa. Route 304 is another option for travel between Kızılay and Ulus, while route 318 passes through Sıhhiye, Opera and Ulus. Check the current route information before relying on a particular bus connection.

Accessibility and practical travel checks

The available information here covers rail connections, bus routes, maps and service checks, but does not specify station accessibility features. If step-free access or other assistance matters for your trip, confirm details for the stations and services you plan to use with EGO before travelling.

For a simple route plan, identify your destination station, check the rail map, then confirm service times and any changes. If the journey involves a transfer at Kızılay, note whether you’re changing between Ankaray and the metro; for AŞTİ, make sure your route reaches Ankaray in the AŞTİ direction.
